Let's face it, not all stock photos are created equal. I created the Styled Stock Library because I was frustrated with spending hours trying to find stylish and chic stock images that spoke to me as a woman entrepreneur. Everything I found seemed so old school, stale, and boring. There were a few styled stock photography sites popping up with really beautiful photos, but they were expensive. I knew I needed stock photos for my website branding, sales pages, blog posts and social media posts, and that it would add up to a hefty price tag quickly.
That's where the idea for the Styled Stock Library was born. I wanted to create a membership site with a low annual fee where women entrepreneurs could quickly and easily find images that helped them build better online brands + attract their ideal clients.
Your goal when using styled stock photography should be to instantly attract your dream client's attention and then invite her in to learn more about you and your services.
So how you do attract your ideal client with styled stock photography? Well, first thing's first - don't use an image just because it's beautiful! You need to ask yourself if that particular image will resonate with your ideal client. Remember, when building your brand, it's not only about what you like (although this is important) it's about what your dream client wants - what will attract and inspire her? Your job as a business owner is to figure out exactly who she is and show her that you totally get her.
Your mission should be to find images that feature some of your dream client's favorite things, or that tell a story about the life she wants to live. That way, when she lands on your website or social media account she wants to come and live in your (digital) world for a while.
Here are a few fun questions to ask yourself when choosing styled stock photos to use on your website, blog post or social media account.
1. Who is your dream client? What inspires her? What motivates her?
2. What is on her desk?
3. Is her desk perfectly organized or creatively messy?
4. Who is her style icon?
5.What is her drink of choice?
6. What are her favorite desserts?
7. How does she accessorize?
8. If you were to send her a bouquet, which flowers would be included?
9. What are her guilty pleasures?
10. What are the 3 most important things you want your clients to feel when they see your visuals?
With the answers to those 10 questions in mind, you'll have a much easier time narrowing down the best stock images to use for your branding. Of course, if you're using a stock image for a particular blog post, you'll also want to find one that tells the story of what you're writing about, if possible.
