Our top predictions for what’s Haute in stock photography in 2020
Our job at Haute Stock is to always keep a pulse on what’s hot right now and what’s up-and-coming in the design and photography world in order to create fresh & relevant visual content for our members.
We’re always paying attention to current design trends, popular branding colors, the latest fonts and what’s being posted on social media.
But we don’t just want to follow trends, we feel strongly about also being trendsetters with our stock photography & design assets.
We wanted to put together a series of 2020 design trend posts with our predictions on what’s going to be big this year. In this first post we’re exploring our top picks for 2020 Stock Photo Trends.
Minimalism
Busy flatlays are a thing of the past. Less consumption, waste, and consumerism is on everyone’s minds and the changing tastes are being reflected in imagery through simple compositions.
This year, ‘less is more’ as minimalism becomes even more on-trend. Think less props but more intentional pieces. More negative space with the use of light/shadows, textures and hints of color for interest.
Shadows
Styled stock photography has shifted from perfectly bright, white, shadowless images to more natural editing and composition.
Images that add interest and dimension through shadows and uneven light really took off last year and will continue to be popular in 2020.
We love the realism and drama that these types of images evoke. Shadows add a high-end and sophisticated feel to an otherwise static photo.
Neutrals
Speaking of minimalism, neutral palettes were all the rage last year and we think the trend will continue into 2020. The good thing about neutral color palettes, is that it makes it easy to mix them in with other brand colors for more flexibility when using stock photos.
Neutral color palettes will continue to be favorites among designers this year, so expect to see lots of greys, whites, browns, taupes and yes, beige is back!
Pops of color
Though neutrals will continue to have a moment, color will make a comeback as you will see more brands incorporating bold hues and pops of color in their branding to offset and stand out from the rise of neutral brand palettes.
Minimal composition mixed with bold pops of color will add vibrance and interest to images without feeling overbearing and busy.
Use color to really make a statement and when you want your imagery to stand out — such as on sales pages, announcements and on advertisements.
Vintage Vibes
The rise of vintage inspired film filters for Instagram Stories has created a throwback trend that’s showing up in stock photos as well.
Be prepared to move forward by doing backward — anything with vintage vibes is hot right now and will continue to be popular in 2020.
If you want to get your hands on beautiful, high-quality, on-trend stock photos, all of the images used in this post are available in the the Haute Stock Library!
